Hi. The game is asking me to use a VPN when playing from Ukraine, even though it shouldn't be necessary.

When you say it is "asking you to use a vpn", what exactly do you mean? That you can not connect without one?

I can't get into the game without a VPN, and if I turn the VPN off, it disconnects me from the game.

While I can not be sure, I would assume this is to do with the DDOS filters they have in place. They stated there is a chance it will catch normal players as well as the bot farms based on region, ISP or similar factors.
I guess you could try the support section on these forums. Either posting there are browsing the similar threads that exist to see if solutions have been posted. Or alternatively, keep using a VPN until whatever is affecting your area's ability to connect is resolved.
