BoED is rly Unique weapon that u need in melee ONLY for Elemental Fury build. No situation when u need second copy of this weapon so u dont need to switch it in figth. So no reason to delete Unique status
I may have assumed too much in my opening post. Folks who are not familiar with rogue at 60 have no reason to be familiar with Our Shared Struggle on the topic of poison immunity.
Assassination rogue is the most popular rogue build in early phase content. The build relies on attacking quickly to apply as many poison procs as possible. Poison chance is not normalized, so the faster you can swing the more poison procs you can generate. It will eventually get outscaled by other builds, but early on (like where we are now) it slaps pretty hard.
In vanilla, though, poisons have a problem in that there are several types of enemies that are always immune to poison damage and several types that are often immune to poison damage. Turtle WoW solved this with the introduction of Dissolvent Poison (and to a lesser extent Corrosive Poison). Dissolvent Poison does physical damage that ignores armor. Up until TWoW 1.18.1, Dissolvent Poison II was generally used in all endgame content. It affected everything.
In 1.18.1, there was a line in the patch notes that turned the bowels of every rogue to water. "Dissolvent and Corrosive Poison now only affect Elementals, Giants, Undead, and Mechanical enemies." This makes things
complicated. Assassination's damage comes almost completely from poisons. If you are hitting something that your poisons don't work on, it's near the level of a mage deciding he's just going to melee instead of cast spells. Your damage is nonexistant. This is a problem because lots of instances in the endgame have mixed types. Just speaking for Molten Core, post 1.18.1 a rogue needs to use Instant Poison VI on core hounds, the flamewalker bosses, Magmadar, and Incindis, but then Dissolvent Poison II on all of the elementals and giants. Swapping poisons takes three seconds per weapon, and the raid is not going to wait. Most raids are going to be moving quickly enough that mixed type pulls are an inevitability.
Thus, we had to adapt. We bring two weapon sets. One pair of weapons has Dissolvent Poison II on it, and the other set has Instant Poison VI on it. Swap between them as needed for what you're stabbing. Losing the GCDs sucks, but it is either that or basically be barely better than AFK for a bunch of pulls.
This all sucks. It sucks to have to farm up two sets of weapons. It sucks to have to swap weapons in fights. It sucks to have to keep an eye on all of your poison timers and charges to make sure that your swap set will still have poisons on it when you need it. I wholeheartedly endorse reverting the Dissolvent Poison change as suggested in
https://octowow.st/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1656 as a better solution to this problem because
this all sucks.
But that's not what this is about. That's just context.
Assassination rogue wants to attack fast to proc lots of poisons. Spellstrike wants to attack fast to proc lots of Blade of Eternal Darkness triggers. They're great friends! The two of them are like two peas in a pod.
Thus the problem: I can only have one Blade of Eternal Darkness. I can put Dissolvent on it or I can put Instant on it, but when the time comes to do a quick swap, I am no longer a spellstriking assassination rogue. Without Blade of Eternal Darkness equipped, I am a badly geared assassination rogue. I'm not going to say that's not fine, but it's not great, and it's certainly not ideal.
Hence the request. Just remove the unique tag from BoED. It doesn't do anything given its main hand status. I don't relish the idea of farming a second one, but if that's what I have to do to optimally play spellstrike with poisons in their current state, then that's what I want to be able to do.
